Merchandise with the Washington Redskins name and legendary logo is back online and for sale through the Washington Commanders‘ website after the team abandoned the name and its Native American imagery.
“Redskins” has long been viewed as a derogatory phrase or slur toward Native Americans, so the team dropped the name in 2020 after facing backlash that it was racist. The team played as the Washington Football Team for two seasons, then changed its name to the Washington Commanders in 2022.

The clothing line is a rare appearance for the Redskins logo, and is limited to a small collection of throwback T-shirts or jerseys, according to Fox News.
The new T-shirt features a collage of photos of Sean Taylor, the late Redskins safety who was shot and killed in 2007, in his Redskins uniform.
“Honor an NFL legend with this Sean Taylor Washington Commanders Graphic T-Shirt from Mitchell & Ness,” the shirt’s description said. “This tee features a vintage-soft feel, providing comfort that lasts all day long. The printed graphics pay tribute to Sean Taylor’s legacy, making it a must-have for any Washington Commanders fan.”
The Commanders are labeling the Redskins merchandise as Commanders’ gear. The shirt is listed as “almost gone” on the website.
Another item for sale is Taylor’s No. 21 jersey, which features his name and the Redskins logo. Jersey No. 21 has since been retired by the team.
The team is bringing back some Redskins merchandise to maintain use of the trademark, according to WUSA9 in Washington, D.C.
A team spokesperson told WUSA9 that the Commanders are required to keep the old trademarks in commercial use to maintain control of them.
The Association on American Indian Affairs also told the news outlet that it “condemns the sale of merchandise by the Washington Commanders bearing the former racist team name and Native imagery.”
President Donald Trump criticized the team back in 2020 for removing the Redskins’ name. Reporters asked Trump about another team name change in July 2025.

“Oh, I love that. I love the sound of that,” Trump said when asked about another potential name change then. “I’d do the Washington Redskins. I think they should do it. I told the mayor, and I told people that they should bring back the name. If they bring back the name, you’ll have a lot of excitement.”
The Redskins merchandise can be purchased online or in person at the team store at Northwest Stadium.
