PITTSFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The prosecutor who accused the Pike County sheriff of misconduct has resigned.

Pike County Board Chairman Andy Borrowman said Monday that he received a resignation letter from Pike County State’s Attorney Carrie Boyd. She had charged Pike County Sheriff Paul Petty last month after authorities said he didn’t follow procedures for embalming the body of 47-year-old Shanda Lopez of Milton. Petty also is the county coroner.
