Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina on Monday called for a special prosecutor and an independent commission to handle the investigation into Russia’s involvement in the 2016 elections.
When asked if she agrees with Democrats that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., should recuse himself from the committee’s investigation into the matter after he announced that there was “incidental” surveillance of the Trump transition team, the former GOP presidential candidate said that a special prosecutor or an independent commission is needed for the investigation to “get to the bottom” of what took place.
“We’ve got to have either a special prosecutor or an independent commission, and that’s still the right answer,” Fiorina told the “John Fredericks Show.” “And every day that goes by, it becomes clearer it’s the right answer because the Democrats will not let this go, and the American people need to be reassured about what actually happened here.”
“That’s the only way you’re gonna get to the bottom of this in a way that everyone trusts,” Fiorina added.
Nunes is facing calls to recuse himself from any probe into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, after he revealed the “incidental” surveillance citing a source before revealing the information to Schiff or members of the committee.
As for Fiorina, she is considering a run in Virginia to take on Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., in 2018.
