It wasn’t a good weekend for White House news releases. On Saturday, the administration sent out a transcript of Tony Snow’s Saturday press briefing. When asked what social occasions the president had planned for his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Snow was quoted as saying, “Well, I think there’s a social dinner terrorism night, as well.”
Twenty-one minutes later, a revised transcript went out that had Snow referring to a “social dinner thatnight.”
Then on Sunday, at 9:27 a.m., the White House sent out an article from the paper conservatives love to hate, The New York Times, trumpeting the fact that the Supreme Court would review the administration’s detainee policy at Guantanamo. Only 37 minutes later, a follow-up e-mail came over the transom: “Please disregard the previous release —it was sent in error. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
