The red fundraiser? In this case, the appropriate color is probably blue.
George R.R. Martin, the author of the popular book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” and the inspiration for HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” will host a fundraiser for Sen. Tom Udall (D- N.M.) in early October.
According to Udall’s campaign, the event will feature Martin and Udall for “a discussion on New Mexico issues and politics in support of Senator Udall’s re-election campaign.” It will run attendees $250 to get in the door and a V.I.P. meet and greet before the event will cost $1,000. An exclusive dinner with the duo will cost $2,600.
Martin is a self-described Democrat, who has taken issue with “Republicans and their Teabagger allies” over voter I.D. laws. He also recently weighed in on ISIS, comparing the his series’ fictional dragons to nuclear weapons.
Any fan of the series would probably warn Udall not to get too attached to his senatorial seat. If Martin’s track record is any indication, major events usually end in some kind of shocking bloodshed.
When you play the game of thrones, you don’t just get to fundraise. You either win or your campaign dies.
