Army reservist among those killed at Orlando nightclub

An Iraq and Afghanistan War veteran is among the 49 killed and 53 injured when a gunman stormed Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday.

Army Reserve Capt. Antonio Davon Brown, 29, was a Florida native. He was a 2008 graduate of Florida A&M where he studied criminal justice and was a member of Army ROTC.

A Florida A&M news site reported Brown’s death and the Pentagon has since confirmed it. “We are especially saddened by the news that one of the victims was part of the FAMU family,” the statement said. “Our thoughts, and prayers for peace, are with everyone in central Florida and across the nation.”

“I can hardly breathe,” a Twitter user, claiming to know Brown, said. “I never thought any one of us from Class of 08 would die young.”

Brown “is being remembered fondly by classmates and fellow alumni.”
