An Arlington county police officer has been arrested on charges of assaulting two female officers.
Michele Florio, 28, of Arlington, is charged with sexual battery and two counts of assault and battery, all misdemeanors
The alleged crimes took place on Aug. 31 and Sept. 5 according to court records. All three officers were on duty at the time, police spokesman John Lisle said. Florio’s gun and badge have been taken and he is on administrative leave without pay. An internal investigation is under way, but won’t be finished until judicial proceedings are complete, Lisle said. He declined to give any details regarding the alleged offenses.
Florio’s defense attorney, James DeVita, also declined to comment Monday night.
Detectives are investigating the possibility that Florio may have had “inappropriate contact” with others, according to a police statement.
“He was in a position where he had contact with the public and if anybody believes there was some sort of inappropriate contact, we want to know,” Lisle said.
The incidents came to light after the victims contacted police internal affairs officers, Lisle said.
Florio, who has been with the department since January 2005, was released on a $2,500 bond. He is scheduled for trial Nov. 1.
