The arraignment scheduled this week for Prince George’s County Councilwoman Leslie Johnson has been canceled, according to a spokeswoman with the U.S. Attorneys office.
The charges filed against Johnson, 59, a Mitchellville Democrat, had signaled a guilty plea to the federal evidence-tampering charges was likely at the hearing. Her arraignment was set for Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. A guilty plea would have forced her off the council.
The FBI arrested Johnson and her husband, then-County Executive Jack Johnson, in November — after she was elected but before she was sworn in — when agents said they caught her trying to stuff in her bra and underwear $79,600 worth of bribes obtained by her husband.
Marcy Murphy, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorneys office, would only say Monday that the hearing was canceled and said she could not provide any other details. She said the arraignment has not yet been rescheduled.
