McDonnell signs law to extend cops benefits

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell signed legislation Friday to extend short-term disability benefits for state police officers injured in the line of duty.

Officers will be eligible for six months of coverage, rather than the current period of 125 days of work.

The bill, sponsored by State Sen. Fred Quayle, R-Suffolk, “enables our state police to fully recover from line of duty incidents and have financial security while doing so,” McDonnell said.
