White House chief of staff John Kelly chose to forego traveling with President Trump to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and stayed in Washington to work on immigration.
Trump arrived in Switzerland early Thursday Washington time, just two weeks before a new Feb. 8 deadline for finding an immigration deal that can pass the Senate.
Republicans and Democrats in the Senate agreed to strive for a deal by then that helps the Dreamers but also boosts border security, ends chain migration, and eliminates the visa diversity lottery. But if they can’t, Senate Republicans said they would call up a bill to help Dreamers, although it’s not clear that bill by itself could pass in the House.
