Secret Service arrests bike rack jumper who caused White House lockdown

One person was arrested after trying to jump over a bike rack barricade Wednesday afternoon in First Division Park, just west of the White House.

The Secret Service announced in a statement the individual attempted to jump over the bike rack located in the park but was detained by Secret Service officers before getting over the barrier.

The person — a sex and age for the individual was not released — was charged with unlawful entry and turned over to Washington, D.C., police.

“Following established protocols, Secret Service personnel increased their posture of readiness and members of the public were instructed to move away from the scene while the individual was taken into custody,” the statement read.

The White House went into a brief lockdown but business quickly returned to normal.
