Formerly lost text messages sent between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, two FBI agents who allegedly displayed an anti-Trump bias, were sent to at least five congressional committees Thursday.
The Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General disclosed the texts with House and Senate lawmakers after advising Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Senate Homeland Security Chairman Ron Johnson, R-Wis., they had been recovered in January.
The messages were exchanged by Strzok and Page between Dec. 14, 2016, and May 17, 2017, a pivotal period for the FBI’s Russia investigation because both former national security adviser Michael Flynn and FBI Director James Comey were fired during that time.
Congressional investigators are looking into whether the FBI was biased in the way it conducted its investigations into President Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
FBI agents Strzok and Page also briefly worked for special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.
Texts between the pair, who were having an extramarital affair, that have already been made public include Page calling Trump an “idiot” and “a douche.” Strzok replied to another, saying “F Trump.”
The House Judiciary Committee, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence were among the panels to receive the latest batch of messages Thursday, the Washington Examiner can confirm.
The texts originally went missing due to a technical issue with FBI-issued mobile phones.
