Striking bus drivers fired

Forsythe Transportation announced Wednesday that it had fired 35 of 36 Arlington Transit bus drivers who went on strike last week. The drivers called in sick June 13 and picketed to protest what they called inhumane working conditions and sexual harassment. Bill Forsythe, owner of the company that contracts with Arlington County to run the buses, said early last week that he had fired the workers, but later said he had suspended them impending an investigation. That investigation is now over, the company says, and the workers are terminated, having violated the no-strike clauses of their contracts. — Liz Essley
