The only thing inappropriate about Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer who purportedly offered damaging info about Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign was that news of the meeting leaked, the White House said Monday.
“I’ve been on several campaigns and people call offering information as I know many of you receive similar calls of people offering information. Don Jr. took a very short meeting from which there was absolutely no follow up,” said deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders. “The only thing I see inappropriate about the meeting was the people that leaked the information on the meeting after it was voluntarily disclosed.”
Sanders answered follow-up questions on the Trump son’s meeting with a Russian lawyer to say she was not aware of other meetings the son may have had with Russian officials but that she had not had an “extensive conversation” to find out more.
Trump Jr. offered to meet with Congress to discuss his interaction with the Russian last year in a tweet on Monday.
