It has been a whirlwind year for former WUSA reporter and anchor Mike Walter.
After losing his Channel 9 gig because of the economy, he turned his attention to filmmaking. This weekend his debut documentary, “Breaking News, Breaking Down,” was named the best short documentary by the Cannes Independent Film Festival.
The film looks at journalists affected by post-traumatic stress syndrome. Walter is deeply familiar with the topic, having covered American Flight 77’s crash into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
