Perry: Conservatism ‘has never been stronger’

The Lone Star Report recaps last night’s victory speech by Republican Gov. Rick Perry:

Perry recalled how in 2008 political observers thought they had seen the death of conservativsm with Barack Obama’s presidential victory. Since then he observed Republicans have seen victories in New Jersery, Virginia, Massachusetts, “and now Texas.”

Today, said Perry, conservatism “has never been stronger.”

“We’re taking this country back one vote at a time,” he said.

He said that Texas voters were saying no to a culture of reckless spending and yes to predictable regualtory polices, low taxes, and limited government — the same formula he had reiterated endlessly, and effectively, throughout the campaign.

“So from Driftwood, Texas, to Washington, D.C., we are sending you a message tonight,” he said to applause. “… Stop messing with Texas!”

Perry will face former Houston Mayor Bill White in November.
