Callista Gingrich to be named ambassador to the Vatican: Report

Callista Gingrich will be President Trump’s pick to be the next ambassador to the Vatican, according to a new report.

The Trump administration is planning to nominate the wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich before the president meets with Pope Francis later this month in Rome, CNN reported Sunday.

An official announcement has been delayed pending approval from the Office of Government Ethics, an administration official told the network.

Newt Gingrich, who supported Trump during the presidential campaign and took himself out of the running for a Cabinet post, said in January that his wife was being considered for the ambassadorship.

Callista Gingrich told the Christian Broadcasting Network in 2011 that she has “always been a very spiritual person.”

“I start each day with a prayer, and pray throughout the day, because I am grateful for the many blessings that God has bestowed upon us,” she said.
