The Democratic National Committee, admitting that it once “laughed” at the possibility businessman Donald Trump or conservative Sen. Ted Cruz would emerge as the Republican presidential nominee, is now warning supporters that it will happen and represents “our greatest fear.”
In a sharply-worded appeal to supporters, the party is warning of the potential pain either would inflict on Democrats and President Obama’s agenda, and to fight that it is launching the “2016 White House Victory Fund.”

“If the Republicans win, they will implement the most extreme GOP agenda in history — making President George W. Bush look like a moderate!” said the three page appeal. “There is no doubt they will stop at nothing to roll back everything Democrats have achieved over the past eight months,” it said.
Turning to the GOP front-runners, the party note from DNC CEO Amy Dacey, said, “This Republican Party, led by Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, is the most out of touch with reality we’ve seen.”
It added: “While many laughed Donald Trump off as a joke, we are at a turning point and his candidacy should be taken seriously. The likelihood that one of these men could become president is no longer fiction — it’s now a reality and should be our greatest fear.”
