Stacey Abrams really, really wants to be Joe Biden’s running mate.
The failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate is doing constant media interviews about how “excellent” she would be as vice president and calling up Democratic operatives privately to lobby for her selection. This public campaign is rather bizarre and desperate, and Abrams essentially lacks any qualifications other than her identity politics. She also has a history of promoting tin-hat level “voter suppression” conspiracies that she should have won the governor’s mansion despite receiving fewer votes.
But even setting all that aside, Abrams’s desire to be on the Biden ticket is grossly hypocritical because of her claim to be a supporter of the #MeToo movement and its legacy of “believing all women” who launch allegations of sexual assault. Now, a woman has accused the elderly Democratic nominee, but it just so happens that Abrams sees this man as her meal ticket. The politician’s willingness to cast aside her espoused feminist concern with sexual assault allegations to advance her career is truly shameless and disgraceful.
As the Federalist’s David Marcus noted, when Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh stood accused of sexual assault by liberal professor Christine Blasey Ford, Abrams favored derailing his nomination despite a near-total lack of contemporaneous corroboration or evidence proving the accusation.
“After the courageous and compelling testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford yesterday, it is shameful that Kavanaugh’s nomination is being rushed forward,” Abrams said. “I believe women, and I believe survivors of violence always deserve to be supported and to have their voices heard.”
“A Supreme Court hearing is a job interview for one of the most critical roles in our democracy,” she continued. “If there is even a hint of impropriety, let alone the credible allegations bravely brought forward by Dr. Ford, we should pause and thoroughly investigate them, rather than rush forward.”
Well, now Biden faces an accusation of sexual assault from former Senate staffer Tara Reade. Ford did not even remember where or when this alleged attack took place, and she couldn’t prove she’d ever met Kavanaugh; Reade is confirmed to have worked for Biden. So, too, Reade’s story has now been backed up with at least two accounts of contemporaneous corroboration — far from proving the allegation, but substantially backing it up. (It’s much less likely that someone could have invented a fake accusation 25 years in advance.)
Just like Nancy Pelosi and other prominent Democrats, Abrams apparently doesn’t care about alleged sexual assault victims at all, because her shameless bid to be Biden’s nominee continues. Evidently, “believing women,” having their voices heard, and thoroughly investigating allegations only matters to Abrams when it’s a Republican who stands accused — not a Democrat who can advance her career.
