May proclaimed Better Hearing and Speech month

The Howard County School Board proclaimed May as Better Hearing and Speech month in honor of the county?s speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

Howard public schools employ 116 speech-language pathologists and audiologists who work in developing students? listening, speaking, literacy and language development.

May is nationally recognized as Better Hearing and Speech month. About 42 million Americans have some type of communication disorder, costing more than $30 billion in lost work productivity, special education and medical treatment, according to school officials.
