Of course it’s about jobs too, but you get the feeling that Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., is a bit of a furniture nut.
Hagan appeared Tuesday on Capitol Hill alongside the folks from the magazine House Beautiful, who are hosting parties and contests galore in the District over the next few days. “My four favorite words are ‘made in North Carolina,’ but, ‘made in America, is a close second,” she said, touting her state’s furniture industry. Hagan said she visits North Carolina’s furniture markets every April and October. “And please know that every spring and fall in North Carolina is beautiful and it’s a perfect backdrop for the home furnishing capital of the world,” she gushed.

The senator was also a wee bit starstruck when seeing local interior designer Thomas Pheasant, who spoke at the event. “We introduced her to Thomas Pheasant out front and she had seen his work in the magazine,” said House Beautiful editor in dhief Newell Turner. “And so she was like, ‘I tore pages of your project out because I thought someday I might be able to hire you to do my house.’ — so you know what, we get first dibs on it because we made the connection,” Turner concluded, not discouraging the idea of a future senators-at-home spread.
