With a preseason game coming up Thursday, and with a lot of money invested in him – not to mention the fact that this is only a scrimmage – the Redskins will rest Albert Haynesworth in Saturday’s intra-squad scrimmage.
”You can see him warm up,” Redskins coach Jim Zorn said.
The 20,000 or so fans expected to attend surely will enjoy nothing more on a scorching day than watching a good stretch by the D-line.
Anyway, others who will rest: running back Clinton Portis, receiver Santana Moss, receiver Devin Thomas (still bothered by his hamstring), corner Carlos Rogers (calf), defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin, defensive end Phillip Daniels, right guard Randy Thomas (knee), right tackle Mike Williams (lower abdominal strain) and corner DeAngelo Hall. Quarterback Jason Campbell will play, as will receiver Malcolm Kelly.
Zorn said he expects to run between 40-60 plays on offense. They will have punts and field goals as well.
Individual drills begin at 1:20 p.m. with the scrimmage starting 40 minutes later.
