Erick Erickson of Redstate.com just made a good point about the presidential debate in an interview with John King on CNN. Erickson suggests that Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., and former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., should attack Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, for his record on illegal immigration rather than his rhetoric on Social Security.
Bachmann and Romney could run to the right of Perry on immigration given Perry’s support for a Texas version of the Dream Act. That would allow Romney to change the subject from Romneycare, and give Bachmann a chance to out-TeaParty Perry. Bachmann is already attacking Perry on ilegal immigration, describing Perry as having an “atrocious record” on illegal immigration.
