President Trump on Monday lauded Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte for his tough approach to immigration, saying he is “doing the right thing.”
“Italy has taken a very firm stance on the border, a stance a few countries have taken. And, frankly, you’re doing the right thing, in my opinion,” Trump told Conte before a bilateral meeting at the White House. “And a lot of other countries in Europe should be doing it also.”

The president said he agrees with Conte’s approach to illegal and legal immigration.
Trump has praised Conte for his hard-line stance on immigration before, saying last month the Italian prime minister is “very strong” on immigration.
Conte’s visit to the White House is his first since he was sworn in as the prime minister of Italy.
