CNN reports John Kelly getting outshined, leaving home later for work

A year into his White House tenure, chief of staff John Kelly reportedly has a diminished presence as new communications director Bill Shine’s stature has rapidly grown.

Kelly leaves home in Virginia later in the morning and sometimes arrives back at home earlier in the day than he had done earlier in his tenure, CNN reports.

The report also notes that Kelly has spent less private time with Trump than he previously did, although he still does travel with the president regularly.

Conversely, the report notes that Shine, a former Fox News executive, is accompanying Trump more than anyone else.

Despite the changing dynamic in the White House, Trump reportedly holds no animus against Kelly and while he is thinking about a successor to Kelly, a Republican source told CNN that he has no plans to ask Kelly to leave at the moment.

A person close to Kelly told CNN that Kelly has no plans to step down unless Trump asks him to do so.
