Bernie Sanders will begin receiving Secret Service protection, according to a report.
Protection by a team of agents, which not all presidential candidates receive, is the latest sign that the Vermont senator is now seen as major presidential candidate.
Fox News reported Saturday that Sanders will receive Secret Service protection due to his status as presidential contender.
The news comes two days before the Iowa caucuses, where a January surge from Sanders finds him neck-and-neck with longtime Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in most major polls.
A White House petition that started in August argued that Sanders should receive protection.
The Secret Service was reached for comment; Sanders’ campaign declined to comment further to the The Examiner,
