Baltimore Washington Medical Center celebrates expansion

Baltimore Washington Medical Center is holding an open house this afternoon to celebrate the latest phase of the hospital’s $117 million expansion.

The new 111-bed patient building, which is 224,000 square feet and seven floors, doubles the size of the Glen Burnie hospital, officials said. The building also includes expanded critical care capacity and new space for outpatient services.

The patient rooms are private with wireless Internet access. Outpatient services include the Sleep Center, Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, and Outpatient Infusions Center.

The building also will house the new labor and delivery unit, which will open in the fall, and a 15,000-square-foot addition to the emergency department, which opened in July.

The open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at 301 Hospital Drive.
