Annapolis gala marks 300th anniversary

The Queen Anne Ball on Sunday marks the 300th anniversary of the granting of Annapolis? Royal Charter.

The ball, which will be held at the Loews Annapolis Hotel, honors Queen Anne and the historic Royal Charter that brought democracy to the city of Annapolis in December 1708.

The hotel will be decorated as a castle and the entertainment will celebrate the colonial time period with herald trumpets, town criers, knights and the Queen?s court.

There also will be a silent art auction displaying the work of about 50 local artists. Guests can bid on paintings photographs, ceramics and illustrations.

The ball is open to the public and guests are asked to wear black tie attire or Colonial costumes.

Tickets cost $150- $500 and can be purchased at the door or online.

Proceeds from the event will fund Annapolis Alive cultural events.
