WATCH: Florida man cuts brakes on 140 electric scooters for no apparent reason

Police arrested a Florida man after he allegedly cut the brake lines on more than 140 electric scooters.

Thomas Williams, 59, was caught Sunday and charged with criminal mischief, along with misdemeanor counts of prowling and resisting arrest for his role in vandalizing electric scooters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Video shows Williams cutting lines on two of the many scooters he tampered with since April.

The electric scooters are new to the city and are part of a pilot project with a one-year permit. The scooters have caused several dozen hospital visits and one death in the first four months of the pilot project, but police say they are unsure if Williams brake cutting has resulted in any injuries.

“As far as injuries go, we are not able to determine if scooter crashes that previously occurred were due to scooters that had been tampered with,” Casey Liening, a spokeswoman for the police department, said.

The police report gave no motive for Williams vandalism, but he faces a felony charge. A neighbor said Williams is “a recluse” who does not own a car and only rides a bike.
