Elle mag asks Chelsea Clinton about ‘importance’ of female president

Elle magazine published an excerpt from a soon-to-be released interview with Chelsea Clinton two days before her mother, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is reportedly set to announce her campaign for president.

The portion published deals with Chelsea’s opinion on “the importance of having a woman president.”

“[W]hen you ask about the importance of having a woman president, absolutely it’s important, for, yes, symbolic reasons — symbols are important; it is important who and what we choose to elevate, and to celebrate,” Chelsea Clinton says in the interview.

The cover of the magazine features a photo of the younger Clinton in a black dress, hair billowing. “Glass ceilings? How about no ceilings!” reads a tease on the cover, a reference to the former first lady’s concession speech for her failed bid for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

Hillary Clinton is expected to launch her second attempt to capture the White House on Sunday.
