The president of the FBI Agents Association rebuked President Trump after Trump tweeted the bureau’s reputation is in “tatters,” calling the suggestion “false.”
Thomas O’Connor responded to Trump in a series of tweets on the organization’s feed. The association represents more than 12,000 active and former FBI special agents.
“Every day, FBI Special Agents put their lives on the line to protect the American public from national security and criminal threats. Agents perform these duties with unwavering integrity and professionalism and a focus on complying with the law and the Constitution,” O’Connor said.
”This is why the FBI continues to be the premier law enforcement agency in the world. FBI Agents are dedicated to their mission; suggesting otherwise is simply false.”

Earlier in the day, Trump vented some frustrations about the FBI’s role in investigating the 2016 presidential election and Russian meddling in the campaign. He first complained about one of the agents who was working on the investigation and then the bureau in more general terms.
“After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness,” he said.
