White House mocks Trump’s VP pick

White House press secretary Josh Earnest mocked Donald Trump on Friday for picking a running mate who has supported elements of President Obama’s agenda.

When asked by a reporter in a Friday press conference if he had any response to the announcement that Indiana’s Republican Gov. Mike Pence was joining the campaign, Earnest said, “You mean the TPP-supporting, Medicaid-expanding Mike Pence? No, I don’t have any comment on that.”

Gov. Pence endorsed the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a free-trade deal negotiated by President Obama, which has been heavily criticized by Trump for serving Chinese interests at the expense of American businesses. Earnest previously praised Pence for expanding Medicaid coverage as part of Obamacare implementation.

Pence’s decision to work with President Obama on expanding Medicaid turned many Republicans off, and is something Democrats will likely to exploit during the campaign.
