Walt Whitman High School has found a new graduation speaker.
CBS journalist Bob Schieffer will speak at the Bethesda school’s graduation ceremony next Monday after longtime White House reporter Helen Thomas stepped down following controversial comments she made about Israel and Palestine.
Schieffer is a “journalist of prominent stature in the community” Whitman principal Alan Goodwin told the Washington Post.
Thomas, 89, announced her retirement Monday after facing widespread criticism for saying Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go home” to Germany, Poland and the United States.
