Donald Trump’s campaign manager said Wednesday that Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns has nothing to do with claims that his returns would reveal a relationship with Russia.
“Mr. Trump has said that his taxes are under audit and he will not be releasing them,” Paul Manafort told CBS.
“It has nothing to do with Russia, it has nothing to do with any country other than the United States and his normal tax auditing process,” Manafort said. “That issue will be dealt with when the audits are done.”
Democrats have charged that Trump is connected to the hack of Democratic National Committee files last week. Some Democrats have said Russia has an interest in getting Trump elected, and that Russia was behind the hack that led to the publishing of documents and files that embarrassed Democrats at the start of their convention this week.
“So to be clear, Mr. Trump has no financial relationships with any Russian oligarchs?” CBS’s Norah O’Donnell asked Manafort.
“That’s what he said, that’s what I said,” Manafort replied. “That’s obviously what our position is.”
