WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — A Lake County judge has convicted a woman of aggravated driving under the influence in the car crash death of a 5-year-old girl in suburban Chicago.
Judge James Booras on Thursday convicted Carly Rousso of Highland Park in the 2012 death of Jaclyn Santos-Sacramento. The 19-year-old is accused of inhaling computer dust cleaner before driving onto a sidewalk and killing the girl. The girl’s mother and two infant brothers were injured but survived. The family was walking on the sidewalk at the time.
Rousso previously pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in connection with the girl’s death.
Rousso’s attorney has argued that the chemical found in computer cleaner isn’t an intoxicating compound in Illinois. Prosecutors say the chemical was in Rousso’s blood after the crash.
Sentencing is July 10.
