DIM BULB
Liquor store stoppered. For the first time in 15 years, Baltimore police are shutting down a business, Linden Liquors, under a nuisance law. Mayor Sheila Dixon said, “The owners of Linden Liquors have been allowing drug activity in and around their stores for too long.” We’re all for people helping make their neighborhoods safe, but since when did not helping become a crime? If the police can’t free the neighborhood from drugs, why should the store owners be expected to? And how is an empty building going to make drug trafficking less likely?
OUTRAGE
Olympic mettle
WHO: Swedish Olympic wrestler Ara Abrahamian
Recommended Stories
WHAT: Disappointed with his bronze medal in the 84-kilogram wrestling event, Abrahamian stormed off the podium, tossing his medal to the ground. Apparently, Abrahamian had more important places to be than on top of the medal stand.
WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: Abrahamian showed an absurd amount of disrespect to Italy’s Andrea Minguzzi and Hungary’s Zoltan Fodor by tarnishing their moment of fame. Now the International Olympic Committee has taken his bronze medal. Talk about being an embarrassment to your country.
WHY HE DID IT: Abrahamian was disappointed with his semifinal-round loss to Minguzzi. He said his trip to Beijing was a total failure because he didn’t win gold. Sour grapes, anyone?
