STORLINE:
A truck was left dangling over the side of a motorway bridge in Melbourne, Australia, on Friday after it flipped over and threw the driver 20 metres (22 yards) onto another road below, local media reported.
According to police, the truck was involved in a collision with a car shortly after 6.30 a.m. local time (2030GMT).
The driver, believed to be in his thirties, was found by a nearby factory worker and later assisted by paramedics.
He suffered serious head and pelvic injuries and remains in a critical condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, according to media reports.
The other driver involved in the collision, a man believed to be in his twenties, suffered minor injuries and is in stable condition in hospital.
Cranes were brought in to secure the dangling truck and to safely remove it.
Fire crews were examining a damaged section of the bridge.
The accident caused major delays during the peak hour in Melbourne.
