Va. looking for help spending on Chesapeake Bay

Virginia has $370,000 to spend on the Chesapeake Bay, and the legislative committee responsible for the bay’s upkeep is accepting grant applications from those interested in funding for bay-related education and restoration projects. In 2011, they awarded grants to 62 groups, including nonprofit conservation organizations, schools and government agencies. The grants are funded by the sale of decorative bay-themed Virginia license plates. Each of the $25 plates secures $15 for the restoration fund. The deadline to apply for a grant is Oct. 1. — Jacob Demmitt
