‘Why not just give an honest answer?’: CNN anchor slams Biden denial of super PAC switch

CNN anchor John King accused 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden of not being truthful in regards to his stance on super PACs.

The former vice president has consistently denounced the use of “dark money” throughout his campaign, however, his communications director Kate Bedingfield appeared to reverse course recently. Her flip came after Biden raised far less money than some of the other front-running presidential candidates in the third quarter.

After airing a clip of Biden both denouncing super PACs and saying he has no control over them, King retorted, “It’s not true and Joe Biden knows that. He said repeatedly at the beginning of the campaign he didn’t want a super PAC, he wouldn’t have a super PAC, but that’s not where the party is anymore.”

He went on, “The guy who’s building one up for him right now has been with Joe Biden going back to the 1980s. If Joe Biden said ‘Larry don’t do it,’ Larry would not do it. So, why that? Why not just give an honest answer. I’m not raising as much money as I need, so we are going to go this route.”

Molly Ball, a reporter with TIME magazine and a frequent network guest, added, “He can say he’s not worried about the ability to make money, but his campaign clearly is … There is a big concern inside of his orbit about whether he’ll be able to keep pace with the other candidates as these contests get closer.”

Biden raised $15.2 million during this year’s third financial quarter, trailing Bernie Sanders’ $25.3 million, Elizabeth Warren’s $24.6 million, and Pete Buttigieg’s $19.1 million from July through September.
