Finally: Trailer shows D.C. what it’s missing on ‘Blonde Charity Mafia’

After the CW dashed D.C.’s dreams of being able to watch local reality show “Blonde Charity Mafia” on American TV, MTV in the United Kingdom, which will air the show starring Georgetown socialites Katherine Kennedy, Krista Johnson and Sophie Pyle starting Monday, gave us a taste of what we are missing.

A two-minute-long trailer was released Tuesday. Here’s what stuck out about the “reality” show:

– “Blonde Charity Mafia” has long been dubbed the “Late Night Shots” reality show. Turns out, it actually is. The private social networking site is made to look like the District’s own rendition of “Gossip Girl.”

– And in what is LNS most interested? Why, Kennedy’s love life of course. In the promo she’s linked romantically to John Pyne, former Capitol File publisher Susan Nixon’s son. But in scripts discovered by local media last spring, Pyne becomes involved with both Kennedy and co-star Pyle, who isn’t even in the trailer.

“I mean Sophie and I were just friends, and that’s it,” Pyne told Yeas & Nays, denying any such love triangle. “Honestly, I don’t even know what happened with the script situation because honestly I don’t pay much attention to this. … I thought it had honestly blown over.” Kennedy confirmed that the two dated.

– Finally, Kennedy’s charity work is made to look personal. “Since childhood she’s been fighting a rare disease that could be fatal,” the voice-over says. That’s overblown.

“Not sure who did the voice over for #BlondeCharityMafia but no, Im not dying of a fatal disease. Everyone has something, I have MENs,” Kennedy posted on Twitter on Tuesday. Her multiple endocrine neoplasia means kidney stones and frequent doctor trips, not impending demise.

The promo is online, but full episodes may not be available in the United States, and MTV said the show hasn’t been picked up for broadcast here.

Kennedy was handling that news just as her character would — by possibly taking a trip to London and throwing a viewing party.
