Shedding those turkey day calories

It’s time to start figuring out how you’re going to burn off all those calories — not to mention fat — from those piles of mashed potatoes, gravy and pumpkin pie at your Thanksgiving feast. Here is a list of some Thanksgiving runs to help get you started.

Thanksgiving Day

»  SOME Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger 5K, West Potomac Park, 8 a.m. So Others Might Eat is holding this 5K run and family fun walk to support SOME’s programs for the hungry. Info: some.org.

»  Turkey Chase 10K and 2-mile run/walk, Bethesda, 8:30 a.m. The YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase has held this Thanksgiving morning run for almost 30 years. There also is a 50-meter tot trot. Info: turkeychase.com.

»  Turkey Trot, Frederick 8:30 a.m. The Friends of Way Station Inc. will hold this race and 1-mile fun run to raise money for Frederick County’s mentally ill residents. Info: waystationinc.org.

»  Virginia Run Turkey Trot 5K & 2K Fun Walk, Centreville, 8 a.m. This race, in its 21st running, benefits Life with Cancer, an Inova Health System program for cancer patients and their families. Info: runwashington.com.

»  Friends of Micah Turkey Trot 5K Run/walk, Freericksburg, 9 a.m. The Fredericksburg Area YMCA will hold this race rain or shine. Info: ymcaracing.com.

Nov. 28

»  Turkey Burnoff 5 Mile/10 Mile, Gaithersburg, 10 a.m. The Montgomery County Road Runners Club sponsors this race in Seneca Creek State Park. Info: mcrrc.org.

»  Drumstick Dash 8K Run, Burke, 9 a.m. Housing & Community Services of Northern Virginia is holding its first Drumstick Dash at Burke Lake Park. The event will feature an 8K as well as a one-mile fun run.
