Michael Mollot was not known as a scorer.
Mollot, an Odenton resident, was added to the Bayhawks roster in the second round of the supplemental draft this past off-season.
“I wanted to get down to Baltimore to play for the Bayhawks,” Mollot said. “It is easier because I live down here, too.”
He split his three seasons in the MLL with Rochester and Philadelphia.
Baltimore attacker Mark Millon said that Mollot has brought skill and experience to a young team. “He does a lot of things; he knows how to play,” Millon said.
Mollot, a three-timeAll-American at the University of Maryland, scored three goals in his debut for the Bayhawks in a 17-11 road loss to the Long Island Lizards on Saturday. Mollot, originally from Long Island, scored just seven goals for Philadelphia in 2005.
“I had a good game [Saturday]. I felt like I had a good match-up,” Mollot said.
“Hard-nosed” is the term that Bayhawks? coach Scott Hiller used to describe the 6-feet, 185-pound midfielder. “He is a leader on the field,” Hiller said. “He realized that we were short at midfield and he stepped up.”
“We have got a lot of young guys in the midfield,” Mollot said. “I am a veteran and I tried to lead by example.”
“I would like to think I am capable of playing that way every game,” Mollot added. “But we have to see how the season plays out.”
Millon said that even though Baltimore lost by six, there were still some positives. “[Long Island] is the same team that has been together for several years, and we were still in the game,” Millon said.
“It took a half for our defense to get on the same page,” Hiller said. Hiller also said he was disappointed with the face-off play, ground balls, and Baltimore?s time of possession.
The Bayhawks play their first home game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Unitas Stadium at Towson University against the Chicago Machine.
