Megachurch pastor: ‘God has given Trump the authority to take out Kim Jong Un’

An evangelical advisor to President Trump who preached the morning of his inauguration said God has given Trump the right to attack North Korea.

“When it comes to how we should deal with evil doers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full of power to use whatever means necessary — including war — to stop evil,” Dallas-area megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress told Christian Broadcasting News on Tuesday. “In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong Un.”

In the Biblical passage of Romans 13, the Apostle Paul writes that authority and government are given by God and that rulers can punish “those who do wrong.”

“That gives the government . . . the authority to do whatever, whether it’s assassination, capital punishment or evil punishment to quell the actions of evildoers like Kim Jong Un,” Jeffress told the Washington Post.

Jeffress said that he made the statement after Trump’s comments on Tuesday that “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States” and that if they do, “they will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”

“When President Trump draws a red line, he will not erase it, move it, or back away from it,” Jeffress said in the statement. “Thank God for a president who is serious about protecting our country.”
