Trump picks Doug Manchester as ambassador to the Bahamas

President Trump will nominate Doug Manchester to serve as ambassador to the Bahamas, the White House announced Monday evening.

Since 1970, Manchester, 74, has chaired Manchester Financial Group, whose divisions include Manchester Grand Resorts and M Commercial Properties around the country. The new ambassador’s background stretches from telecommunications and radio broadcast to medical instrumentation and real estate development.

Manchester is from California and has built some of the tallest buildings in San Diego, including the Manchester Grand Hyatt and San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina. His portfolio also includes a number of luxury resorts.

Manchester is a major philanthropist in the San Diego region and sits on the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute’s Board of Trustees.
