Utah Sen. Mitt Romney said President Trump was “wrong” to claim that U.S. military generals want to be at war to help bomb manufacturers make money.
Romney, a Republican, told CNN that he was disappointed in Trump’s remarks about the top generals at the Pentagon. He said it was “offensive” for Trump to suggest that generals are trying to keep wars alive to make defense suppliers happy.
“What he said (yesterday) about generals was unfortunate, offensive and wrong,” Romney said on Tuesday.

On Monday, Trump addressed a recent report that claimed that he called World War I veterans “losers” by reaffirming his support for the troops. He said that lower-ranking troops love him but that the military leadership does not like his quest to end wars in the Middle East.
“I’m not saying the military’s in love with me — the soldiers are, the top people in the Pentagon probably aren’t because they want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes and make everything else stay happy,” Trump said during a press conference.
Romney has condemned Trump since his presidential bid in 2016. He was the only Republican senator to vote to convict Trump during the impeachment trial.
