Work zone alert: Track shutdowns on Red Line

Another weekend, another set of track work delays for Metro riders.

The transit agency is planning to shut down three Red Line stations, plus force trains to share a single track on the Orange and Blue lines.

That means delays of 15 to 20 minutes, as riders take free bus shuttles or wait longer for trains.

Green and Yellow line riders will be spared.

Here’s where the work zones will be, running from 10 p.m. Friday through the weekend:

Red Line: No train service between Shady Grove and White Flint. Riders instead can pick up free shuttle buses at Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook and White Flint stations.

Blue/Orange lines: Trains will single track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory stations.

But Metro is planning a spring break from track work for the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which is five weeks long this year. The relief starts March 24.
