Bachmann ready for caucus after debate

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Tex., might have the operation to win the Ames Straw Poll, as The Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein predicts, but I think Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., looks like the favorite for the Iowa caucuses after her debate performance tonight.

Specifically: Asked if she intends to “be submissive her husband” as president, Rep. Michele Bachmann,R-Minn., might have won herself the Iowa caucuses with this answer, which will further endear her to Christian conservatives:

“What submission means to us, if that’s your question is, it means respect. I respect my husband. He’s a wonderful, godly man and a great father. And he respects me as his wife – that’s how we operate our marriage. We respect each other, we love each other and I’ve been so grateful that we’ve been able to build a home together. We have five wonderful children and 22 foster children. We built a business together and a life together and I’m very proud of him.

The Washington Examiner‘s Byron York will take some flak for asking her the question, but, as National Review Online‘s Kathryn Jean Lopez notes, he gave her a question she’d have to deal with eventually, and she handled it pretty well.
