Treasurer plans to auction 20,000 properties

DETROIT (AP) — The office of the Wayne County treasurer is planning a September auction of more than 20,000 properties that were subject to tax foreclosure.

Details of the planned online auction were announced Tuesday. The Detroit News reports that’s a record number for the county, up from more than 14,000 last year.

Auctions in 2011 produced more than $33 million in sales.

Wayne County Treasurer Raymond J. Wojtowicz also has created a department within his office to assist property owners. The Taxpayer Assistance Department will assist people in dealing with delinquent tax problems. This year the office has assisted more than 20,000 taxpayers facing problems.
