Republicans can’t do the math Re: ‘Who’s in charge here?” Sound Bites, Oct. 28
The Examiner quoted House Speaker John Boehner’s spokesman last week saying “Washington, D.C., is still run by Democrats — and the American people know that.”
In 2010, those same people elected a majority of Republicans to the House.Democrats make up less than two-thirds of the Senate. Can Michael Steel explain how the Democrats control two and a half of three branches of government? Is President Obama executing so many executive orders that he’s now in charge of four-thirds?
Miss Burke, my third grade teacher, would shout down from heaven if she knew my fractions were more in error than those of the hopelessly feckless Republican establishment. Even when they are in charge, they govern like they are not.
We now know the real reason for the steadily advancing Tea Party movement.

School administrators ignore bullying problems
Re: “Kids intimidated by school bullies,” Oct. 30
When I spoke at the Litchfield Elementary School Board meeting in Arizona, I asked them to change their district policies to protect their students and staff from bullying, harassment, intimidation and discrimination, but I was not taken seriously.
Then, after hearing from several other students that they have also faced similar problems, I sent the school district an email via the Bullying Project — an organization I started to pressure school districts to change policies to protect students and staff — regarding students being bullied, which they failed to respond to.
As a follow-up, I called the school system’s community liaison and asked her for a statement. She immediately ended the call. This school district is one of many not taking bullying seriously.

Lonely? Blame Reaganomics
Re: “Lonely? Blame the sexual revolution, not men,” Oct. 30
Enter your letter here!! The sexual revolution isn’t the main reason for the troubles that exist in many of today’s marriages and relationships.
The major cause is 30 years of trickle-down Reaganomics in which thousands must lose so that a few can win. It’s made a shambles of the American middle-class lifestyle.
Today most men can’t find decent jobs, many women are working two or more jobs to make ends meet, and everyone is in serious debt. That’s where the pressure is coming from in the lives of men and women.
The bad economy, not good lovin’, is what has sunk all the love boats.
