Drudge stands with Rand

Matt Drudge, editor of the influential and widely read Drudge Report website, was happy to “stand with Rand” Wednesday night.

On Wednesday, while Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul delivered a 10-hour speech on the Senate floor against U.S. government domestic surveillance programs, Drudge sent out a Twitter message to show his support.

“What kind of people want the government to spy on their phone calls? America sick. Getting sicker …” Drudge said on Twitter. He included the hashtag “Stand with Rand,” a slogan popularized by Paul in 2013 when he delivered a similar speech against the Obama administration’s military drone policy.

Paul is a Republican presidential candidate and has developed a reputation as the libertarian-leaning voice within the GOP.

Some of Paul’s potential 2016 rivals, like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, have publicly disagreed with Paul and have supported current surveillance policies.

Drudge is a highly influential voice in the political and media world, with particular clout among conservative voters. His support would be welcomed by any of the Republican presidential candidates.
